While the temperature and environment here don’t as readily instill Christmas spirit as our usual home, we’re finding ourselves caught up all the same.

The Assumption church is all decked out and Christmas carols have been sung for weeks now. We’ve miraculously received the annual chocolate and marzipan filled Christmas package from David’s Mom (thanks Mom!!). I have found a bakery that makes the large specalaas cookies am gathering our favorite treats found a few decorations for our home away from home and like any other year, am just finishing with those last few gifts.

We have Sophie from Holland who has us tuned to a popular Dutch radio station where the DJ’s are on their last stretch of a six day fundraising fast and accepting every-increasing payments for song requests which all goes to a selected charity. Last year, this same group raised over 5 million Euros for fresh water projects around the word. And it is fun to hear Dutch tunes including carols!

We are also awaiting our friend Cindy’s arrival from her work in ‘the ..stans’ to join us for Christmas. She’s been experiencing the cold of the mountains in the Middle East for months now and is hoping for some Nepali sun. When we’re all here, we’ll head south to the Royal Chitwan National park where we’ll enjoy our Christmas dinner, share our gifts and then go for an elephant ride. A traditional Christmas activity… Last time we were there Sophie and I also got to join the trainers, riding the elephants bare back into the river for their baths. What a riot! We’ll also do some jungle safaris and just relax in the warmth of the southern plains of Nepal.

Before we head out though, we want to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas with family and friends nearby, a table filled with food and drink, a warm view of the snow outside, and peace and love in your hearts. We’re especially missing family at this time and will toast you for a Merry Christmas and countless blessings for 2010.
